Ishango Programs

Learning by Making

STEM Education is based on the idea of educating learners in four specific disciplines — science, technology, engineering and mathematics — in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.

Ishango Learning programs specifically aim to offer STEM activities that develop the skills and abilities of young people to identify challenges, invent solutions and ultimately create value – while having fun!

STEM Education : Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math

Ishango’s STEM Education Program uses curriculum-based learning systems such as LEGO Education, K’Nex Education, and KEVA Education to simulate real-world challenges in a kid-friendly and fun way that inspire critical and creative thinking.

Maker Education : Every Child is a Maker!

Ishango’s Maker Education Program challenges young learners to creatively make things – any thing! At Ishango, every child is encouraged to have a DIY (do-it-yourself) spirit with the ability to identify a problem and create a solution using their knowledge, skills and available resources. We aim to transition mindsets from passive consumers and recipients to active makers offering value.

Games : STEM Games and Puzzles

Ishango Play presents learners with the latest STEM educational toys, logic games, and puzzles that foster critical thinking skills and entertain. Ishango also honors traditional African games, such as Oware, and presents unique toys, games, and puzzles that embrace African culture.

Ishango Math : African Living Mathematics

Ishango Math honors the living mathematics in traditional African art and culture and how it relates to modern science and information technology. Through various activities, Ishango Learners explore the physics in Adinkra symbols, the mathematical patterns in Kente cloth and the geometric fractals present in the architecture of villages, ancient carvings, hairstyles, metalwork, paintings, and textiles throughout Africa. STEMpreneurship : Make Value

Ishango’s Make Value program is a curriculum-based entrepreneurship program where learners are introduced to financial literacy and basic business models while exploring the math and science behind a product such as slime, baked goods, bath bombs, or textiles. Young STEMpreneurs are then invited to test the marketability of their products at the annual Lomé Mini Maker Faire or various kid-friendly events.

Camps : Active Minds

Ishango Camps keep minds active and engaged during summer and holiday school breaks. A holiday camp may involve building and coding a robot ready for a bot battle or making kites ready for competition. Summer camps often have a global reach where we register to join other campers worldwide that are presented with the same (often social) challenge and then share innovative solutions by video online.

Join us and turn your children’s curiosity into lifelong skills.
